Materials Needed

  1. Plastic canvas sheet (size of your choice)
  2. Plastic canvas needle
  3. Worsted weight acrylic yarn in various colors (blue, white, and other shades you prefer)
  4. Scissors
  5. Regular tissue box

A Step-by-Step Guide

Follow this step-by-step guide to create your own Lighthouse Regular Tissue Cover:

  1. Measure your tissue box and cut the plastic canvas sheet accordingly, considering the necessary margins. Make sure the plastic canvas sheet covers all sides of the tissue box.
  2. Using the continental stitch, start creating the base of the tissue cover. This stitch is simple: just go in and out of the plastic canvas squares, forming diagonal lines.
  3. Refer to the pattern guide and carefully stitch the lighthouse design onto the base. Remember to use different shades of blue and white to mimic the ocean waves and the body of the lighthouse.
  4. Once the design is complete, secure the edges by whipstitching around the perimeter of the tissue cover.
  5. Trim any excess yarn and adjust the size if needed.
  6. Place the regular tissue box inside your newly crafted tissue cover.
  7. Admire your masterpiece and showcase it proudly!

This colorful tissue box is perfect for anyone who collects lighthouses. The nautical theme would even look neat in a child's room. Stitch this plastic canvas pattern using 7 count plastic canvas mesh and medium weight yarn.

Plastic canvas is a variation of needlepoint and other canvas work crafts, such as embroidery. Our patterns are designed to use acrylic or wool based yarns in medium or worsted weights. Because plastic canvas mesh is so rigid, it is perfect for creating 3-dimensional objects such as tissue box covers, small jewelry and trinket boxes, handbags, magnets, dolls, vases, napkin holders, wind chimes and many other types of both decorative and useful items. Dancing Dolphin Patterns have full instructions, and large full color charts.

Plastic canvas comes in different colors and with various size holes for different thicknesses of yarn. As with any textile canvas, the hole size is called count. For example, 10-count plastic canvas mesh has 10 holes per linear inch. The most common sizes are 5, 7, 10, and 14 count. It is sold most often in sheets; pre-cut shapes are available in circles, triangles and novelty shapes such as butterflies, hearts, and stars. Our patterns are designed using 7 count plastic canvas mesh.
