One highlight of our day was visiting the Kitchener City Hall. With its stunning architecture and impressive clock tower, the City Hall stands tall as a symbol of Kitchener's heritage and vibrant spirit. The panoramic view from the top was truly awe-inspiring, offering a never-before-seen perspective of the city.

Day 2: Exploring the Region

On the second day of our trip, we ventured beyond Kitchener's downtown core to explore the surrounding region. Our first destination was the scenic Waterloo Park, located just a short drive away. The park's remarkable landscapes, serene lakes, and beautiful picnic spots made it the perfect place for an afternoon getaway. We indulged in a leisurely stroll, capturing the mesmerizing beauty of nature and creating lasting memories.

No trip to Kitchener is complete without visiting the St. Jacobs Farmers' Market. This renowned market boasts an array of fresh produce, exquisite handicrafts, and mouthwatering delicacies. As we wandered through the vibrant stalls, we were greeted by friendly vendors eager to share their stories and offer samples of their delectable creations. The market was a true sensory delight, filled with the sights, sounds, and flavors unique to the region.

Continuing our journey, we embraced the spirit of adventure by heading to the African Lion Safari. This world-class wildlife park immerses visitors in an up-close and personal experience with majestic animals like lions, giraffes, and elephants. Our hearts raced as we embarked on a thrilling safari drive, witnessing these incredible creatures in their natural habitats.

Day 3: Hidden Gems and Cultural Experiences

As our trip approached its final day, we set out to uncover Kitchener's hidden gems and immerse ourselves in its vibrant culture. One such gem was the Homer Watson House and Gallery. Nestled amidst picturesque landscapes, this historic site showcases the works of renowned Canadian artist Homer Watson. We were captivated by his stunning paintings, which beautifully depicted the beauty and essence of the area.

The Schneider Haus National Historic Site presented us with a captivating glimpse into the region's German heritage. This centuries-old farmhouse offers an authentic experience, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the traditions and customs of the past. We explored the historic rooms, admired the intricate craftsmanship, and even participated in traditional activities, making traditional pretzels and woodworking.

Our final stop was the THEMUSEUM, an interactive and immersive space dedicated to art, science, and technology. We marveled at the thought-provoking exhibits, participated in hands-on activities, and engaged in stimulating conversations with fellow curious minds. THEMUSEUM served as the perfect finale to our enriching and captivating trip.

Our trip to Kitchener, Ontario, and its surrounding areas from July 25th to 27th, 2019, was a truly memorable experience. We explored the enchanting beauty of Victoria Park, indulged in the diverse culinary scene, and immersed ourselves in the rich history and culture of the region. From scenic nature spots to vibrant city life, Kitchener offered an array of unforgettable experiences.

Harry and I traveled with my sister and her husband, Shirley and Ed, to the Kitchener area. We toured the Schneider Haus - In 1807, Joseph Schneider and his wife Barbara (Eby) and their family emigrated from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. They settled here and built a log cabin which they lived in for ten years before building their permanent home; Schneider Haus is Kitchener’s oldest surviving building. Woodside National Historic Site in Kitchener, Ontario, is the boyhood home of William Lyon Mackenzie King, Canada's tenth, and longest-serving Prime Minister. This lovingly preserved Victorian home is filled with King family heirlooms and period reproductions. Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory has an indoor tropical garden featuring thousands of free flying butterflies from all over the world, over one hundred different varieties of tropical plants, waterfalls, and streams. We toured Galt downtown with a special trip to the former Galt Post Office. At the McDougall Cottage we were treated to trompe l'oeil paintings by Jack Baird, brother of Cottage owner James Baird. Our last stop was the Forbes Textile Mill in Hespeler – it is no longer kept up as a heritage site. For our visit to Doon Heritage Village and the Kitchener-Waterloo Region Museum please see Our Trip to Kitchener Book 1, as well as our short visit to the Cambridge Sculpture Garden, mostly trying to find the sculptures.
