When it comes to American politics, few names hold as much weight as "Washington." The Washington family has a long and storied history in the United States, with the first President, George Washington, being a prominent figure in the country's founding. However, what many people may not know is that the Washington legacy did not end with him. In fact, it continued for several generations, with each member making their mark on the political landscape. Today, we delve into the captivating world of Generation Ten of the Presidential Branch: The Washingtons.
The Beginnings of a Political Dynasty
The Washington family's political influence began with George Washington, the first President of the United States. George's involvement in shaping the country was immense, as he set the foundation for many of the principles that still govern America today. His commitment to public service and dedication to the ideals of liberty and democracy laid the groundwork for the future generations of Washingtons to follow.
After George's presidency, the torch of leadership was passed down to his nephew, Bushrod Washington. Serving as an associate justice on the Supreme Court, Bushrod played a crucial role in shaping legal decisions and ensuring the preservation of the nation's constitution. His impact on the judicial landscape cannot be overstated, as his rulings continue to shape the legal framework of our society.

This is the sixth volume of Dr. Justin Glenn’s comprehensive history that traces the “Presidential line” of the Washingtons. Volume One began with the immigrant John Washington, who settled in Westmoreland Co., Va., in 1657, married Anne Pope, and became the great-grandfather of President George Washington. It continued the record of their descendants for a total of seven generations. Volume Two highlighted notable family members in the next eight generations of John and Anne Washington’s descendants. Volume Three traced the ancestry of the early Virginia members of this “Presidential Branch” back to the aristocracy and nobility of England and continental Europe. Volume Four resumed the family history where Volume One ended, and it contained Generation Eight of the immigrant John Washington’s descendants. Volume Five treated Generation Nine. Volume Six now presents Generation Ten, and it includes over 12,000 descendants. Future volumes will add generations eleven through fifteen, making a total of over 63,000 descendants. Although structured in a genealogical format for the sake of clarity, this is no bare bones genealogy but a true family history with over 1,200 detailed biographical narratives. These in turn strive to convey the greatness of the family that produced not only The Father of His Country but many others, great and humble, who struggled to build that country. Volume Six, Part One covers the descendants of the Immigrant John Washington’s children Lawrence Washington and John Washington, Jr. Volume Six, Part Two covers the descendants of the Immigrant’s child Anne (Washington) Wright.
