Exposed: Scammer International Student Housing - Learn How to Avoid Falling into the Trap!
As an international student, finding a suitable and affordable housing option is crucial for your overall experience abroad. However, it's unfortunate that some individuals or organizations take advantage of vulnerable students by offering fraudulent housing services. In this article, we will expose the tactics used by these scammers and provide you with essential tips to ensure your housing arrangements are safe and legitimate.
Identifying the Scammers
Scammers targeting international students often use sophisticated methods to dupe unsuspecting individuals. They create professional-looking websites, use fake online reviews to build credibility, and offer attractive housing deals that seem too good to be true. However, by staying vigilant and conducting thorough research, you can avoid falling into their trap.

One of the first red flags to watch out for is poorly designed or outdated websites. Many scammers use generic templates or low-quality images, which can be an indication of their dishonest intentions. Moreover, be skeptical of websites that lack contact information, have limited property details, or request upfront payment without providing secure payment options.
Research and Verification
Before finalizing any housing agreement, be sure to do your research and verify the legitimacy of the housing provider. Look for reviews and testimonials from other students, both on the housing provider's website and on independent platforms. If available, contact the previous tenants directly to inquire about their experiences. Additionally, check whether the provider is affiliated with any recognized educational institutions or housing networks.
Conducting a background check on the housing provider is crucial. It is wise to request proof of ownership or authorization to provide housing services. Ask for identification documents, registration numbers, or license details to ensure their authenticity. A legitimate provider should be willing to provide this information to gain your trust.
Face-to-Face Viewings and Contracts
Never finalize a housing agreement without personally visiting the property and meeting the landlord or representative. Scammers often try to convince students to pay deposits or sign contracts remotely, without proper verification. Insist on viewing the accommodation in person and asking relevant questions about the rental terms, maintenance responsibilities, and any additional charges that may apply.
When it comes to signing contracts, ensure that the terms are fair and reasonable. Read every clause carefully, paying attention to the cancellation policy, deposit refund process, and repair obligations. If an agreement seems vague or the landlord refuses to discuss specific details, reconsider your decision and seek alternative options.
Secure Payment Methods
Scammers often request bank transfers or cash payments, making it difficult to trace the funds in case of fraud. It is recommended to use secure payment methods such as PayPal or credit cards, as they provide additional layers of protection. Avoid making substantial upfront payments or paying through wire transfers, as these methods offer little recourse in case of a scam.
Seek Assistance from Authorized Channels
If you suspect a housing provider to be operating fraudulently, report the situation to authorized channels such as your educational institution, local authorities, or relevant housing associations. By doing so, you can prevent other students from falling into the same trap and potentially bring scammers to justice.
Securing suitable and trustworthy housing is vital for a positive international student experience. With scammers targeting vulnerable individuals, it is crucial to stay cautious and conduct thorough research. By following the tips provided in this article and utilizing authorized channels for verifying housing providers, you can protect yourself from falling victim to scammers.
Always remember, if a housing deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Protect yourself and avoid becoming another victim of the Scammer International Student Housing racket.

Any guarantee avoiding scam? I doubt it, but you can in time learn what to look for and what to ignore. The price is high if you fall into the trap. You are in the risk of loosing a lot of money, not only this but loosing your faith within yourself, and maybe in others. To forgive and forget takes time, but not impossible. The lesson can have a high price, but be valuable in future when dealing with other people in either personal or professionel matters. How will you know?
This book is written as my experience regarding international students in Copenhagen also covers scammers who did take advantage of a student in need of a place to stay while living in Denmark. This is probably a matter that lots of students all over the world meets.
