Step-by-Step Instructions: Making the Morning Glory Lace Insertion
The Morning Glory Lace Insertion Filet Crochet Pattern involves a series of steps that, when followed meticulously, will result in a stunning lace design. Here is a detailed guide to help you create your own Morning Glory Lace Insertion:
- Begin by creating a foundation chain using the desired number of stitches. Keep in mind that the length of the chain will determine the overall size of your lace insertion.
- After creating the foundation chain, follow the chart or written instructions provided in the pattern. The chart displays a grid of squares and symbols that represent different stitches.
- As you work through the rows, make sure to pay attention to the symbols to create the desired lace pattern. Remember to refer to the key provided in the pattern to understand the meaning of each symbol.
- Continue following the pattern until you have reached your desired length. Make sure to count your stitches regularly to avoid any mistakes and ensure the lace insertion remains symmetrical.
- Once you have completed the lace insertion, fasten off the last stitch by cutting the thread or yarn and pulling it through the loop.
- Finally, use the tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends and add finishing touches to your lace insertion.
Tip: It is recommended to practice the pattern using scrap yarn or thread before starting on your final project. This will allow you to familiarize yourself with the pattern and gain confidence in your crocheting skills.

A Greek Key and natural scallops enhance the morning glories in this wide lace edge, originally designed by M. Pintner in 1927. The scallops are made as you go with easy increases and decreases, with no need for an additional edge. A matching insertion pattern is included, which can be used to run through the center of a dresser scarf or table runner with linen on each side. This is a very handsome border for any purpose, so you're good to go for tablecloths, bedspreads and anywhere else you need a breath of spring.
The edited pattern has written instructions for every row of the Greek Key border, and has been corrected from the original (which didn’t quite work out, as you can tell from the photo).
This is not your usual scanned vintage crochet pattern. To make this pattern great for today’s crocheter I wrote complete instructions, expanded the written instructions so you won't need to skip around, and made an easy to follow chart. I fixed the repeats so that the Greek Key works out correctly, and I also changed the written instructions to use modern US crochet terms.
The only stitches you need to know to complete this lace are: chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, treble crochet, and slip stitch.
