It staged captivating performances, captivating audiences with their technical skill and emotional depth. Under her guidance, the West Australian Ballet Company flourished, gaining recognition both nationally and internationally.
Throughout the first 21 years, the West Australian Ballet Company performed a diverse repertoire, showcasing a range of ballet styles and techniques. From classical ballets such as Swan Lake and Giselle to avant-garde contemporary works, the company constantly pushed the boundaries of what was possible in the world of ballet.
One of the most notable achievements of the West Australian Ballet Company during this period was its first international tour in 1962. The company represented Australia in the Edinburgh Festival, where they received critical acclaim for their performances. This tour marked a pivotal moment in the company's history, solidifying its position as a world-class ballet company.
Moreover, the West Australian Ballet Company also played a crucial role in nurturing local talent and fostering a sense of community within the ballet industry. It provided opportunities for aspiring dancers to train and perform with professional artists, creating a supportive environment for growth and development.
As the West Australian Ballet Company celebrated its 21st anniversary in 1973, it had firmly established itself as a cultural institution in Western Australia. Through dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to the art of ballet, the company had achieved significant milestones and laid a strong foundation for future generations of dancers and ballet enthusiasts.
The first 21 years of the West Australian Ballet Company shaped the company's identity and set the stage for its continued success. Despite the challenges faced along the way, the company persisted in its mission to bring the beauty of ballet to the people of Western Australia. Kira’s Legacy the story of the origins of the West Australian Ballet is a remarkable story of success against tremendous odds. Kira Bousloff, founder, and her immediate successor, Rex Reid, were ballet professionals. Even so, the task of delivering a ballet performance to widely spread communities was not an easy one.
It was due to the choreography and teaching of Mde Bousloff that the Company kept moving along as an amateur organization for seventeen years. The high degree of endeavour and the enthusiasm she imparted in dancers created success. In the following four years, the expertise and artistry of Reid brought the Company into a professional existence.
Today, after sixty years of performance, it is seen as the foremost provincial Australian Company
