Butterfly Corners Luncheon Set Filet Crochet Pattern - A Delicate Touch for Fine Dining
In the world of crafting, few techniques can rival the delicate beauty of filet crochet. With its intricate patterns formed by a combination of open and filled meshes, filet crochet creates stunning designs suitable for a variety of projects. One such project is the Butterfly Corners Luncheon Set, a gorgeous filet crochet pattern perfect for adding a touch of elegance to any dining experience.
What is Filet Crochet?
Filet crochet is a technique that involves creating a design on a grid-like pattern using only two stitches: the chain stitch and the double crochet. The open meshes are formed by skipping certain stitches, while the filled meshes are created by working double crochets into specific stitches. This combination of open and filled spaces results in a beautiful lace-like effect that can be tailored to the desired design.
Filet crochet has been around for centuries, with its origins dating back to the 16th century in Europe. It gained popularity during the Victorian era and has remained a beloved technique among crocheters ever since. Its versatility allows for a wide range of projects, including doilies, table runners, curtains, and even garments.

Crochet a tablecloth corner that features flying butterflies and swirling leaves, and attach it to fabric or a purchased plain tablecloth. Designed by Olive F. Ashcroft in 1924, the pattern includes two small matching butterfly corners for napkins.
This is not your usual scanned vintage crochet pattern. To make this pattern great for today’s crocheter I wrote complete instructions, expanded the written instructions so you won't need to skip around, and made an easy to follow chart. I also changed the written instructions to use modern US crochet terms.
The only stitches you need to know to complete this lace are: chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, treble crochet, double treble crochet, and slip stitch.
