He struggles to survive only to be released at the end of the war and face the hell which was the Communists’ revenge on those not fighting with their Partisans. Two of the daughters have children out of wedlock, and one appears to marry a Nazi sympathizer, while Mojca and her lover risk their lives to help a Jewish family escape the wretched camp known as Mauthausen. This novel, based on the lives of actual people identified at the story’s end, will engross the reader in the drama of the times, the belief in a better future, and the triumph over evil forces.
