The origins of the Spotted Dog Western Shoshoni Tribe can be traced back many centuries. According to their oral tradition, their ancestors inhabited the vast Great Basin region for thousands of years before the arrival of European settlers. Being a semi-nomadic tribe, they moved seasonally in search of resources, such as wild game, plants, and water sources.

Spotted Dog is the fourth book of my series Western Shoshoni Tribe. It is based on the Shoshoni who lived near the Great Salt Lake in what is now Utah during the mid-1700s.
This book, like all my books, is a work of fiction. However, I have some actual facts scattered among my stories to make them seem more real.

A short excerpt from the conversation between Spotted Dog and Warrior woman when they first meet:
Warrior Woman: “I wish all our people were this way. I have heard that some warriors call me the Apache behind my back. This does not bother me as much as the way it is said. They seem to forget I was raised right alongside them. So Spotted Dog, tell me what am I to you, Apache or Ute?”
Spotted Dog folded his arms and placed one hand on his chin. He cocked his head one way and then the other like he was really thinking hard about his answer. Then he finally said, “I see you as a Shoshoni!”
Warrior Woman laughed and asked, “Where did the Shoshoni come into my story?”
“When you join with me and move to my village, you will be Shoshoni, will you not? This is how I see you,” Spotted Dog replied with a smug look.
“Sure of yourself, are you not, Warrior?” Warrior Woman asked.
“I feel in my spirit, you are the one Our Father has sent to me as a wife. I must just convince you of that,” Spotted Dog chuckled.
