The Novel
Pompeii: Into the Fire is based on real people and real events.

This children's novel tells of the final days of Pompeii from the point of view of a seventeen year old boy known as Pliny the Younger.

From a teenage boy celebrating a local festival to fighting for the lives of his family and friends against a devastating natural disaster that changed history, this is Pliny's story of survival and loss.

History
Mount Vesuvius is an active volcano on the west coast of Italy in Europe. On 24 August 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius violently erupted, destroying the nearby towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

The eruption was described by Pliny the Younger in letters he later wrote to his friend the historian Tacitus.
