Book One is a memoir illustrated with nearly 100 black and white photographs of their time. It captures the beauty and history of Greece in the thirty years between 1960-1989. It begins when the authors began travelling to Greece in the early 1960s; and then to mainland Greece and many of its islands as their main holiday destination. It records Greece as it was at the time, and as they experienced it. Bear in mind this is a true story and thus is unlike a novel where an author can increase the excitement at wlll or a guide book full of dry facts; although it may give you ideas for future travel and it does offer some of the history, the culture and spirit of Greece.WHERE THE BLUE TRULY BEGINS when Suzi goes up into the blue sky at the dawn of the charter flight holiday industry when Suzi is a rookie airhostess. It continues when as a family they travel around remote coastal villages and into the blue-green mountains or cross the sea, often of varying hues, on very basic Greek ferries, smelling the pale blue thyme permeating their Greek meanderings.Given that the Covid-19 pandemic occurs while the authors work on this account, Out of the Blue, not surprisingly, is the first title considered and Suzi is able to work movingly, interspersing her feelings and emotions through the pages, with the growing realisation that their planned 2020 summer visit to Greece is unlikely to go ahead. Those like Suzi and her family who found their 2020 plans dashed will delight in the reflections of the authors who deliberately make their exploration of Greece one of venturing to remote and unusual places. Their wonder in each new place, mainland or island is captured in these pages. Their quest through a lifetime in travel in Greece, which turns leisure into a holiday business, makes it a challenge to find different and stunning locations each year.
