The year was 1680 and the court in England was famous for its extravagance. both men and women wore clothes of silks and satins decorated with diamonds and pearls and fur. The food too was extravagant with dinners of 20 or more courses. It was very different for the poor of England at that time. They lived in poor damp cottages, with thatched roofs that leaked and every year struggled with cold and having enough to eat. In one such village in Kent, there was a huge Manor House and most of the villagers in some way or another worked for the Lord of the Manor. In one of the cottages a girl called Elinor lived with her brothers and parents and struggled like every one else just to survive. Her life took a strange turn one day with a knock on the cottage door. At the door stood a stranger. A women cold and clothed in rags which caused Elinor's life to change.
