History
Commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria in the 19th century, Neuschwanstein Castle was built as a personal retreat and homage to the operas of renowned composer Richard Wagner. Ludwig II, also known as the "Fairytale King," desired to create a castle that blended fantasy and reality, and his vision was brought to life through the brilliant designs of architect Eduard Riedel and later, Georg von Dollmann.
