Boudica and her husband ruled in Norfolk, England peacefully but on the death of her husband the power was taken away from her by the Romans. In response to that and dreadful acts against her daughters she gathered together an army of Celts and headed South when she defeated initially all Roman opposition. George became part of her fearsome chariots which were most effective in a pitched battle with room to manoeuvre around the enemy formations. When these conditions were not met Boudica’s army was finally defeated by the Romans. Alfred the Great wandered the West of England then met up with George in the Somerset Levels but not before Alfred had burnt the cakes. George was given the task by Alfred to take messages to all potential allies for a final battle with the Vikings. The combined Saxon armies met the Vikings then defeated them and later united England. George found this battle to be much more static than with Boudica and her charioteers but equally terrifying. In the battle he hid under the huge protective shields of the Saxons as they approached the Viking army. Harold was threatened in the North by invading Vikings which he and his Saxon army defeated at Stamford Bridge. George joined Harold’s army after the battle then walked with them as they sped south to meet the invasion by William and his Normans. George helped scour the countryside ahead of the army to claim animals and food from the farming communities to keep the army supplied with food. Once on the South coast he joined the troops fighting the Normans at Hastings but then along with many of the Saxons he mistook the strategy of the Normans and joined those that ran down the hill when many were killed by the waiting Norman cavalry. He was able to make his escape in his shed. On a smaller scale he joined the rebels who were opposing the Norman overlord the Sheriff of Nottingham. The rebels had taken refuge in the huge Sherwood Forest where their leader Robin Hood and his Merry Men continually harried the Norman rulers particularly the Sheriff. George joined them in the Forest where he had to cook their venison then helped them to rob the Sheriff’s supplies. He found a diet of meat and bread too much and was relieved to ask his shed to take him back home.
